29 May 2024 – Psalm 29

The voice of the Lord

In this Psalm, the potency of God’s Voice is vividly portrayed:

Psalm 29:3(CEV) The voice of the LORD echoes over the oceans.
Psalm 29:4(GW) The voice of the LORD is powerful. The voice of the LORD is majestic.
Psalm 29:5a(ERV) The LORD’S voice shatters great cedar trees.
Psalm 29:7(ESV) The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire.
Psalm 29:8(GW) The voice of the LORD makes the wilderness tremble.
Psalm 29:9(NLT) The voice of the LORD twists mighty oaks and strips the forests bare.
Psalm 46:6(NKJV) The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

Jeremiah 23:29(NKJV) “Is not My word like a fire?” says the LORD, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

Psalm 107:20(NKJV) He sent His word and healed them And delivered them from their destruction.

In the Message translation, Psalm 29:1-2 exclaims: Bravo, GOD, bravo! Gods and all angels shout, “Encore!” In awe before the glory, in awe before God’s visible power. Stand at attention! Dress your best to honor him!

Our enthusiasm stems from the extraordinary might contained within the voice and word of God.

To conclude, Hebrews 4:12(NIV) reassures us: For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword; it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joint and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
