29 November 2022 – What must be done to receive a breakthrough?

  • Acknowledge that you need a breakthrough

1 Chronicles 14:10 (NIV) so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The LORD answered him, “Go, I will deliver them into your hands.”

Psalm 18:6 (NIV) In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.

Psalm 18:6 (TLB) In my distress I screamed to the Lord for his help. And he heard me from heaven; my cry reached his ears.

You can only receive a breakthrough once you acknowledge that you need one. David knew that he was in a situation where he needed a breakthrough. On his own, it would not be possible to win the battle. If you need a breakthrough in your life, you must acknowledge it and then take your request to God.

  • Identify the breakthrough that you need

Clearly David knew exactly what he wanted. Read 1 Chronicles 14:10 (NIV) again: so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?”

David was specific about three things:
What help he needed – would God help and deliver the enemy in his hand.
Who his enemy was – he wanted to attack his enemy, the Philistines.
What his goal was – the goal was to be victorious with God’s help.

To receive a breakthrough, you must know what it is you want. In Mark 10:51-52 Jesus asks the blind man what he wants, He specifically answers that he might see.

Mark 10:51-52 (NIV) “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

  • Know where your help comes from

David knew exactly where he could go for help. 1 Chronicles 14:10 (NIV) so David inquired of God.

Psalm 54:4 (ESV) Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.

Hebrews 13:6 (ESV) “So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

  • Obey when God speak

Once you enquire from God, you must obey him. Only when you obey the Word of God, he will give you the breakthrough.

1 Chronicles 14:10-12 (NIV) so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The LORD answered him, “Go, I will deliver them into your hands.” So David and his men went up to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, God has broken out against my enemies by my hand.” So that place was called Baal Perazim. The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, and David gave orders to burn them in the fire.
