3 June 2024 – Psalm 34

When we get into trouble, God is there every time

What an amazing Psalm, Psalm 34, penned by David. As I read through this Psalm, I am struck by the recurring theme: every time we find ourselves in trouble and turn to God for help, He is there for us. Let’s explore this together.

Psalm 34:4(NIV) says: I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
Then verse 6-9(NIV) elaborate further: This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Fear the LORD, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

Verse 15, 17, and 18(NIV) remind us of God’s constant presence: The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry; . . . The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

One can summarise it as follows:
v4. I sought the Lord – He answered me and delivered me.
v6. I called the Lord – He heard me and saved me out of all my troubles.
v7. I fear the Lord – the angel of the Lord encamps around me.
v8. I take refuge in the Lord – He blesses me.
v9. I will fear the Lord – I will lack nothing.
v10. I seek the Lord – I will lack no good thing.
v15&17. I cry to the Lord – His ears are attentive to me, He hears me and delivers me from all my troubles.
v18. When I am broken-hearted – He will save me and give me hope.

Then in verse 19(GNT) David delivers a profound statement that resonates with me: Good people suffer many troubles, but the LORD saves them from them all;

The different translations each has its unique way of putting it:
*Amplified Bible (AMP) Many hardships and perplexing circumstances confront the righteous, But the LORD rescues him from them all.

Easy-to-Read Version (ERV) Good people might have many problems, but the LORD will take them all away.

International Children’s Bible (ICB) People who do what is right may have many problems. But the Lord will solve them all.

The Message (MSG) Disciples so often get into trouble; still, GOD is there every time.

English Standard Version (ESV) Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

In conclusion, when you find yourself in trouble, remember to seek, call upon, and fear the Lord, for

He will save you and guide you through all your problems.

Have a blessed day!
