30 May 2021 – Breakthrough

Isaiah 28:21 (GNT) “The Lord will fight as he did at Mount Perazim and in the valley of Gibeon, in order to do what he intends to do—strange as his actions may seem. He will complete his work, his mysterious work.”

2 Samuel 5:20 (GNT) “So David went to Baal Perazim and there he defeated the Philistines. He said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies like a flood.” And so that place is called.”

Baal Perazim – This name in Hebrew means “Lord of the Breakthrough”.

1 Chronicles 14:11 (NLT)”So David attacked them at Baal Perazim and defeated them. He said, “God has used me to break through the enemy army like a flood.” So that place is called Baal Perazim.”

Many times, people seek a breakthrough without first seeking the Lord. They need a turnaround in their finances, their health, or their family, but they’re seeking the breakthrough by their own strength. This approach nearly always results in frustration—not because God doesn’t want you to have a breakthrough, but because He wants you to receive it from Him

Breakthrough is a REACTION to an ACTION you take, that is one of obedience to God!

Charles Stanley said obedience is defined in the everyday nature of choices to trust God or not. The decisions we make every day in every circumstance, we can either obey God and trust Him in the good and bad circumstances, or we can rely on ourselves. The act of trusting Him is a simple and recurring act of obedience, even in the most minor decisions of life.

Deuteronomy 28:1-3 (AMP) ““Now it shall be, if you diligently listen to and obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all of His commandments which I am commanding you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you pay attention to the voice of the Lord your God. 3 “You will be blessed in the city, and you will be blessed in the field.”
Isaiah 58:11 (NLT) “The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.”

God is first revealed in the Bible as the Lord of Breakthroughs in a military context involving King David. Years earlier, he had conquered the Philistine giant Goliath. But later he was preparing for battle again, facing the Philistine army not far from the site of his famous encounter with the giant.

This time, the Philistines waged their attack in the Valley of Rephaim, which means “the Valley of Giants” or “the Valley of Trouble.” Recognising his need for God’s guidance and favour, David pray, asking God for His marching orders:

1 Chronicles 14:10-11 (NLT) David asked God, “Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” The Lord replied, “Yes, go ahead. I will hand them over to you.” So David and his troops went up to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. “God did it!” David exclaimed. “He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So they named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”)

Your obedience to God will usher you into your breakthrough. It will usher in your long-awaited season.
