31 August 2021 – To win the battle in our mind we must have God’s Spirit and God’s word inside us

God promises to guide us all the way through our lives. Psalm 48:14 (NIV) “For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.”

Rom. 8:6 (NLT) “If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace.”

John 16:8-15 “And when he has come, he will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in me; of righteousness, because I go to my Father and you see me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when he, the spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak; and he will tell you things to come. he will glorify me, for he will take of what is mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are mine. Therefore I said that he will take of mine and declare it to you.”

Hebrews 4:12, NIV “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” –

The word of God is “alive and active.” That means it’s “vital”—its functions are of life–the divine life and receiving such a living and operative word is essential to our growth.

2 Cor. 10:3-5 “While we live in the world, we don’t fight the same way the world does. We fight with God’s weapons, not worldly ones. Our weapons have God’s power to demolish the enemy’s strong places. We can knock down all the worldly arguments and prideful defences that set themselves up (in our minds) against the knowledge of God. In this war, we capture every rebel thought and we make it give up, and obey Christ!”

The Word is a weapon God has given you to win in life.

John 8:31-32 “If you learn and obey my Word, you will be my disciple. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

How do we arm ourselves?

Joshua 1:8 (NLT) “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

Colossians 3:16 (AMP) “Let the [spoken] word of Christ have its home within you [dwelling in your heart and mind—permeating every aspect of your being].

Jesus himself relied on the Word when He was tempted by the devil in the wilderness. As Spurgeon wrote, “Jesus selected the best weapon. What was best for Him is best for you.”
