31 January 2021- God the King

The King of all earth – Psalm 47:7 (KJV) “For God is the King of all the earth”

The King of Kings – 1 Timothy 6:15 (NASB)”which He will bring about at the proper time—He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords”

The King of all nations – Jeremiah 10:7 (NASB) “Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? Indeed it is Your due! For among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You.”

The King of Glory – Psalm 24:1-10 (NLT) “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. 2 For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths. 3 Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. 5 They will receive the Lord’s blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior. 6 Such people may seek you and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob.7 Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. 8 Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty; the Lord, invincible in battle. 9 Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. 10 Who is the King of glory? The Lord of Heaven’s Armies— he is the King of glory.”

David calling God the King of Glory was a recognition of His perfect holiness. He is, was, and will always be higher than any other living thing.

The Hebrew word translated “glory” in Psalm 24 is kabod, which means “weight. Kabad carries a connotation of solemnity and power. Calling God the “King of Glory” means He is the most awesome, most powerful king and should be taken seriously.

Another title closely related to “King of Glory” is “Lord of Glory.” This title appears in 1 Corinthians 2:8 when the Apostle Paul says, “crucified the Lord of glory.” The title declares that Christ is our Lord and He is the most glorious Lord.

1 Corinthians 2:8 (NKJV) “which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”

Ephesians 1:6,12,14 (NET) “to the praise of the glory of his grace that he has freely bestowed on us in his dearly loved Son. 12 so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, would be to the praise of his glory. 14 who is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of his glory.”
