Ephesians 2:10 (TLB) It is God himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago he planned that we should spend these lives in helping others.
Worship is the process of surrendering your entire life into God’s hands. Everything you do can – and should – be an act of worship.” – Tobin Perry
Serving others is an act of worship
1 Peter 4:7-11 (MSG) Everything in the world is about to be wrapped up, so take nothing for granted. Stay wide-awake in prayer. Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless—cheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s hearty help. That way, God’s bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he’ll get all the credit as the One mighty in everything—encores to the end of time. Oh, yes!
How do we love and serve others in a practical way?
- Pray for others. Ephesians 6:18 (NLT) Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
- Share and give to those in need. Hebrews 13:16 (NLT) And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.
- Give encouragement. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NLT) So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
- Work with intention and joy. Philippians 2:14-15 (NLT) Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.
- Spread God’s Word. Psalm 96:3 (NLT) Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.
- Honour one another. Romans 12:9-13 (NIV) Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
I conclude with, Hebrews 6:10 (NLT) For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.
