4 January Galatians 4

Whose son are you?

Galatians 4:28(NLT) And you, dear brothers and sisters, are children of the promise, just like Isaac.

Romans 9:8-9(ESV) This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring. For this is what the promise said: “About this time next year I will return, and Sarah shall have a son.”

In the New Testament, the promise refers directly to those who accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Those who has put their trust in Jesus. Those people are known as spiritual children of the promise, which means all people born again by faith in Jesus, are called children of the promise. They are God’s elect. They are Abrahams’ spiritual seed.

We become God’s children when we are saved because we are adopted into God’s family through our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Galatians 4:5–6(ESV) to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”

Romans 8:14-17(ESV) For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

Paul brought his argument to the conclusion of whose children we are with these words, Galatians 4:31(ESV) So, brothers, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman.

Simply put, all true Believers have been saved by Christ. Paul provided us with a choice that applies to us today. Do we want to be sons of Ishmael, who was conceived after the flesh, whose mother was a slave, who lived in bondage, and who was under a covenant of legalism? Or do we want to be sons of Isaac, who was conceived through supernatural intervention, whose mother was free, who was positioned in the heavenly Jerusalem, and who was under the New Covenant of grace?
The choice is yours! Whose son are you?
