Know the will of God
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV) Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. Romans 12:2 (ESV) Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, [now here comes the aim] that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Part of worship is to conform our will to God’s will, our agreement with God. Worship does not have to be words spoken, but rather a devoting and surrendering of ourselves in the presence of the Living God, communing with Him as He sees fit.
What is the will of God? (part 1)
Sanctification – 1 Thessalonians 4:3 (ESV) For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality.
Here we have a very specific instance of what God commands: holiness, sanctification, and sexual purity. This is His will of command. The generic meaning of sanctification is the state of proper functioning. To sanctify something is to set it apart for special use; to sanctify a person is to make him/her holy or to set him/her apart.
Deuteronomy 7:6-8 (AMP) For you are a holy people [set apart] to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be a people for His own possession [that is, His very special treasure]. “The LORD did not love you and choose you because you were greater in number than any of the other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But because the LORD loves you and is keeping the oath which He swore to your fathers, the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed (bought) you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
2 Peter 3:9 (ESV) The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
“To be in Christ – that is redemption; but for Christ to be in you – that is sanctification!” -Major W. Ian Thomas
