5 November 2021 – The seven spirits of God

Isaiah 11:1-3 (NIV) “A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord— 3 and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;”

There are seven distinct expressions of the one Holy Spirit: 1) Spirit of the Lord, 2) Spirit of Wisdom, 3) Spirit of Understanding, 4) Spirit of Counsel, 5) Spirit of Strength, 6) Spirit of Knowledge and 7) the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord.

All these seven Spirits are one Holy Spirit in different manifestations.

Additional Scriptures on the 7 Spirits of God

Revelation 3:1 (NIV) “To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.

Revelation 4:5 (NKJV) And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.”

Revelation 1:4 (AMPCE) “John to the seven assemblies (churches) that are in Asia: May grace (God’s unmerited favour) be granted to you and spiritual peace (the peace of Christ’s kingdom) from Him Who is and Who was and Who is to come, and from the seven Spirits [the sevenfold Holy Spirit] before His throne.

In this verse it is talking about seven independent manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer, which is indicative of the fullness of the Spirit in our life.

Throughout the Bible the number 7 is used to symbolise perfection, fullness, abundance, rest and completion or fullness of the Holy Spirit. There is, however, another aspect of the meaning of the number 7 which refers to completion, and even makes completion possible, and that is the aspect of intensification. The principle is the same with the seven Spirits: The seven Spirits are for completion in God’s move, even the completion of God’s move.

In substance and existence God’s Spirit is one, in the intensified function and work of God’s operation Spirit is sevenfold. It is like the lampstand in Zechariah 4:2.

Zechariah 4:2 (AMPCE) “And said to me, What do you see? I said, I see, and behold, a lampstand all of gold, with its bowl [for oil] on the top of it and its seven lamps on it, and [there are] seven pipes to each of the seven lamps which are upon the top of it.”

In existence is it one lampstand, but in function it is seven lamps.

To operate in God’s fullness in a time of darkness, the Spirit of God operates as seven Spirits in our lives. The “Seven Spirits” (Attributes) are given to us, that we can overcome all the trials and tribulations of the world.

Today pray God that these seven spirits will operate in your life through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of the Lord, Spirit of Wisdom, Spirit of Understanding, Spirit of Counsel, Spirit of Strength, Spirit of Knowledge and the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord.
