5 November 2023 – The Lord wants us to seek the things of heaven!

Colossians 3:1(NIV) “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”
Paul tells us to not give over to the things of this earth but rather to seek things that are above, to set our minds on things above. What are these things? Most of us would agree that we are to seek the Lord. Isaiah 55:6(AMPC) Seek, inquire for, and require the Lord while He may be found [claiming Him by necessity and by right]; call upon Him while He is near.

1 Corinthians 2:9-10(NLT) “That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.

Colossians 3:2-3(NLT) Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.

If your desire is to seek God, these truths will encourage you:

  1. If you are seeking God, that reveals He is drawing you to Himself.
  2. God is pleased with those who seek Him.
  3. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him.

God draws you
John 6:44a(TLB) “For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him to me,”

Ezekiel 34:12(ESV) As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness.

Seeking God pleases Him
Hebrews 11:6(NASB) And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
God rewards seekers
Jeremiah 29:12-14(NASB) ’Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’
