John 14:26 (AMP) But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor – Counsellor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.
John 16:7(AMP) But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor – Counsellor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you].
The Greek word for Helper here, in reference to the Holy Spirit, is Parakletos which means one who is called to one’s side especially to help. It also means intercessor, assistant, or one who pleads the cause of another before a judge.
Therefore, the role of the Holy Spirit is all-encompassing. He is our Comforter, Counsellor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, and Standby.
Are you overwhelmed? Do you feel like life has handed you more than you can handle? Life is not always going to be a smooth ride, but we will always have the Holy Spirit with us, working on our behalf. You are never alone. God is always with you. More than that, He is in you through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:13(AMPCE) For by means of the personal agency of] one [Holy] Spirit we were all, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free, baptized [and by baptism united together] into one body, and all made to drink of one [Holy] Spirit.
Our Helper in Prayer. Especially in difficult times, we groan or cry out to God, unable to put into words what we need to pray. Our Helper helps us in times of weakness, assisting us in prayer to God!
Romans 8:26-27(AMPCE) So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance. And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God’s will.
The Holy Spirit gives us understanding of God’s word. The Spirit of wisdom, revelation, and enlightenment opens our eyes to see spiritual truths and wisdom that once was and still is.
Ephesians 1:15-19(AMPCE) For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints (the people of God), I do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers. [For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones), And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength.
