6 May 2022 – When it feels that everything is going against me

Genesis 42:36b (NLT) “Everything is going against me!”

Can you relate to Jacob’s feelings of helplessness and hopelessness? He said “Everything is going against me” At this stage of his life he lost his wife and favourite son, Joseph. There was famine in the land, Jacob was lonely, hungry, and defeated. Overwhelmed by his circumstances. Everything was going against him.

In the mist of his trouble Jacob forgot about God. This is the same man that said in Genesis 32:26 “I’m not going to let You go until You bless me”.

We must remind ourselves that God is greater than any circumstances we face. He will deliver us and help us if we look to Him. God cares deeply. He wants to take our negative circumstances and turn them around.

We must follow David’s example, and redirect our focus by speaking to our own souls. Psalm 62:1 “My soul finds rest in God alone. He alone is my rock and my salvation … He is my fortress, I will never be shaken”.

David said all this while being chased by Saul’s army. If he can train himself to take refuge in God, can we not?

John Ortberg says, “Peace doesn’t come from finding a lake with no storms. It comes from having Jesus in the boat.”

Psalm 112:6 (LB) says: “Such a man will not be overthrown by evil circumstances. God’s constant care of him will make a deep impression on all who see it.”

No matter the circumstance, we will not be deceived, defeated, or destroyed by whatever tactics the enemy chooses to use against us.

1 Samuel 9:16b (MSG) “Yes, I know all about their hard circumstances. I’ve heard their cries for help.”

2 Thessalonians 3:16 (Amp) “Now may the Lord of peace Himself grant you His peace at all times and in every way [that peace and spiritual well-being that comes to those who walk with Him, regardless of life’s circumstances]. The Lord be with you all.”

The peace of God removes the worry from our circumstances, the confidence in knowing that God is with us.

Philippians 1:14 (AMP) “Because of my chains [seeing that I am doing well and that God is accomplishing great things], most of the brothers have renewed confidence in the Lord, and have far more courage to speak the word of God [concerning salvation] without fear [of the consequences, seeing that God can work His good in all circumstances].”

There is no need to fear your circumstances because God can work His good in all circumstances.

Have a day filled with God’s peace.
