6 November 2023 – What does it mean to seek the Lord?

Seeking God means to seek His presence, to desire a relationship with Him, to come to Him for help.

What do we seek from the Lord?

Seek the Lord for salvation – Luke 13:24(NKJV) Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

Matthew 7:7-11(NIV) “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Seek the Lord’s presence – Psalm 105:4a(ESV) Seek the LORD and his strength.

Seek the Lord for His guidance – Psalm 32:8(ESV) “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Seek the Lord for wisdom – James 1:5(ESV) If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Seek the Lord for strength – Psalm 105:4(ESV) Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

Seek the Lord for joy – Romans 15:13(ESV) May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Seek the Lord with your heart – If you want to seek God with your whole heart, it helps to remind yourself of just how worthy of praise and glory God truly is.

Hebrews 13:15(NLT) Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name.

John 4:21-24(MSG) “Believe me, woman, the time is coming when you Samaritans will worship the Father neither here at this mountain nor there in Jerusalem. You worship guessing in the dark; we Jews worship in the clear light of day. God’s way of salvation is made available through the Jews. But the time is coming – it has, in fact, come – when what you’re called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter. “It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself – Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.”
