7 January 2023 – What is the will of God? (part 3)

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV) Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. Romans 12:2 (ESV) Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, [now here comes the aim] that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Doing Good

There can be much confusion around the topic of good works among Christians. Jesus’ salvation is a gift of grace that He doesn’t expect us to earn through our performance. We do good deeds because we are saved. This is the will of God.

1 Peter 2:15 (NKJV) For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.

Galatians 6:9 (AMP) Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.

Luke 12:35-37 (TLB) Be prepared—all dressed and ready— for your Lord’s return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks. There will be great joy for those who are ready and waiting for his return. He himself will seat them and put on a waiter’s uniform and serve them as they sit and eat!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (AMPC) Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.

Proverbs 3:27-28 (ERV) Do everything you possibly can for those who need help. If your neighbor needs something you have, don’t say, “Come back tomorrow.” Give it to him immediately.

Christ came to this world to illustrate God’s, passionate love. He is grace embodied–our example of doing good. We have to let the light of our good works shine through, every moment of every day.

Acts 10:38 (NKJV) how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

In this summary of the earthly life of Jesus Christ, the first thing mentioned is that He went about doing good. There is no better example of Jesus doing good than Him putting others ahead of Himself. That’s what brought Him to us in the first place.

From His perfect example we learn to not do anything selfishly or strife, but to do it with humility, regarding others as more important than ourselves and to not merely look out for our own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Philippians 2:3–4 (ESV) Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Remind yourself always that God seeks to do good to and for you. He looks out for you to help you. When the enemy hatches a plan against you, God turns it around for your good. He is available to ensure that you experience His goodness, always.
