7 March 2022 – Partnering with the Holy Spirit

John 16:7 (AMPC) “However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].”

Jesus told us that he will send the Holy Spirit to us, which implies that the Holy Spirit will be in close fellowship with us.

As believers, we are to partner with the Holy Spirit in our everyday lives.

2 Corinthians 13:14 (AMP) “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

It is in the context of this partnership that the Holy Spirit fulfils His role as our Counsellor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, and Standby.

How does the Holy Spirit Help?

He continually works in the lives of believers to help us grow up and mature spiritually – Galatians 5:22–23 (NIV) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

By testifying about Jesus – John 15:26 (NIV) “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.

John 16:13-15 (NLT) “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.”

Is our Teacher – John 14:26 (NIV) “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

Luke 12:11–12 (NIV) “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

Our Intercessor -Romans 8:26–27 (NIV) “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people”

Our Strengther – Ephesians 3:16 (NIV) “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being”
