I remember when we were still young, and my wife had a difficult day, she would always say, I feel like running away. I would always respond with: Running to where? Fact is we all have days when we feel we would like to run away, the issue is then the question arises: run to where?
In David’s life we see that many times even he felt like running. He just wanted to run from his circumstances, run from his enemies. But then he releases the only place of safety to run to is into the arms of the Lord.
Psalm 18:2 (NLT) The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.
There is an old hymn, written by Joseph Hart, I Will Arise and Go To Jesus, that has this chorus: “I will arise and go to Jesus, He will embrace me in His arms. In the arms of my dear Savior; Oh, there are ten thousand charms.”
Psalm 71:3 (NIV) Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.
Hebrews 4:16 (NIV) Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Psalm 91:4 (NIV) He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
2 Corinthians 4:16 (NIV) Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
Proverbs 18:10 (NLT) The name of the LORD is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.
Matthew 11:28 (NRSV) “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
Rest is trust. Rest equals peace. Rest means quieting all our worries, and concerns, and turning them over to God.
Absolute peace and rest are to be found in God. When you feel you want to run away from life’s troubles and issues, run to the Lord.
