9 June 2023 – Isolation

Proverbs 18:1 (NKJV) A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.

“The worst leadership mistake I have observed senior executives make is to isolate themselves from their direct reports by having an unapproachable image. Employee engagement and friendships at work are the number one factors required to retain talented employees. This leadership habit can be changed by building relationships with your direct reports and discussing interests, hobbies and activities with them.” – Michelle Perchuk

Isolation can be overcome by proactively demonstrate to others that you care.
These practical do’s and don’ts show you care:

  • Make and keep eye contact
  • Ask a question
  • Show genuine interest
  • Mirror back what is said
  • Call people back promptly
  • Slow down and seek a connection, not just an impression
  • Don’t be in such a hurry, stick around and talk to people

The good news is that God never overlooks you. He never isolates us. His eyes are on you.

2 Chronicles 16:9 (NIV) For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.”

God is actively seeking people He can support and bless. He blesses those who are obedient to Him. Imagine the God of the universe searching the earth for people He can support, bless, and strengthen.

Psalm 27:10 (NKJV) When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the Lord will take care of me.

God did not make us to be alone. We are all part of the body of Christ and are to fellowship with one another.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NLT) Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT) Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

I conclude with 1 Thessalonians 5:14 (AMP) We [earnestly] urge you, believers, admonish those who are out of line [the undisciplined, the unruly, the disorderly], encourage the timid [who lack spiritual courage], help the [spiritually] weak, be very patient with everyone [always controlling your temper].
