Leviticus 6:12-13 (NIV) The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it. The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.
The fire on the altar, therefore, served as a constant reminder of God’s power. This fire also represented God’s presence. Deuteronomy 4:24a (ESV) For the LORD your God is a consuming fire,
The glory was visible in the fire at the altar of burnt offering. This ongoing presence of God reminded the Israelites that salvation is of the Lord.
Jeremiah 23:23-24 (MSG) “Am I not a God near at hand”—GOD’s Decree— “and not a God far off? Can anyone hide out in a corner where I can’t see him?” GOD’s Decree. “Am I not present everywhere, whether seen or unseen?” GOD’s Decree. And (NKJV) “Am I a God near at hand,” says the LORD, “And not a God afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places, So I shall not see him?” says the LORD; “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the LORD.
Acts 17:27 (NLT) His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us.
Deuteronomy 4:24 (NASB95) For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
It is a Divine Flame
Leviticus 9:24 (NLT) Fire blazed forth from the LORD’s presence and consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar. When the people saw this, they shouted with joy and fell face down on the ground.
God provided His own fire for the offerings, but it had to be kept burning.
God the Father is said to be fire. Hebrews 12:29 (NLV) For our God is a fire that destroys everything.
The Son is also associated with fire. Revelation 1:14-15 (NLT) His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves.
Just as the Father and the Son is associated with fire, so is the Holy Spirit – Acts 2:3 (NLT) Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them.
Keep the fire burning.
