Revelation 22:16b, (ESV) “I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”
The idea of a “bright morning star” is a star that outshines all the others, and Jesus is the One who is called “bright.” Jesus, as God incarnate, the Lord of the universe, is the BRIGHT and morning star. Jesus is the most holy and powerful “light” in all the universe.
Jesus is the light of the world.
John 9:5 (ESV) “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Numbers 24:17 (NIV) “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel.”
Jesus is the point of reference, the light shining in the darkness that the darkness cannot overcome.
2 Corinthians 4:6, (ESV) “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
Revelation 21:23, (ESV) “And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.”
Romans 13:12 (NIV) “The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light.”
It also represents a new day. The bright morning star represents the promise of a new day, it indicates that something better is coming.
Isaiah 43:19 (The Voice) “Watch closely: I am preparing something new; it’s happening now, even as I speak, and you’re about to see it. I am preparing a way through the desert; waters will flow where there had been none.”
Jeremiah 31:22,25 (NLV) “How long will you go here and there, O daughter without faith? For the Lord has made a new thing on the earth 25 For I will help the tired ones and give strength to everyone who is weak.”
Isaiah 42:9 (NKJV) “Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; Before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
God delights in doing something new. The ‘new’ are things which often make us uncomfortable. They lead us to unseen circumstances. We are not sure on how to handle the things which we face. New experiences are always humbling.
You must see your possibilities as God sees them: “I am making a way in the desert.” God is able to transform the desert areas of your life into fields of blessing and abundance. God can take a dried-up circumstance and transform it into a river that does not run dry.
