CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF THE PROMISED SEED

PROPOSTION: Celebration of the birth of the incorruptible seed of God.

Matthew 1:18-19

Genesis 3:15

INTRODUCTION

Over some few centuries ago Christmas has been more expressed and celebrated as a secular holiday -family holiday.
As we are aware it is observed by both by Christmas and non-Christians.
In the past and recent decades Christmas has been marked by increasingly elaborate giving or exchanging of gifts- which is good.
The image of Christmas has been further driven away by the depiction of the mythical a key role.
Christmas celebration is the remembrance of the love of God for the world- whole humanity.
The divine /virgin birth is the doctrine that forms one of our fundamental pillars of our Christian faith.
Jesus had natural father but was conceived by Mary through the power of the Holy Spirit (Matthew1:18).
This was the fulfilment of the promise of God in Genesis 3:15 after Adam’s fall from God’s original.
This was God’s pronouncement what the serpent had done.

1.Divine Conception Matthew1:18

The divine conception was the ultimate fulfilment of God promised against what satan had done.
“I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed he shall bruise thy head and thou shall bruise his heel- Genesis 3:15(American Standard version).
This announcement was culmination of long expectation of the coming Messiah that the Hebrew Prophets like prophet Isaiah saw it 700 years before.
Isaiah 9:6 “For us a child is born to us a son is given and the government will be upon his shoulders”…
In rabbinical Judaism the contrasting groups of “seed of the woman” and seed of the serpent are generally taken as plural with the promise he

will” bruise your head” applied to Adam and Mankind bruising the serpent’s head.

There is a Jewish tradition where a Messiah is said to be a remedy to the bruising of the heel of the “seed of the woman’.
The Greek Bishop Irenaeus- the identification of the seed of the woman goes to Irenaeus days.
The phase “seed of the woman” is sometimes counted as one of the titles of the Lord Jesus.
Humanly speaking God took a risk by placing the whole humankind redemption in the young woman who was virgin to carry his promises without failure.
God Almighty trusted Joseph and Mary to be faithful without failure.
The question is “can God trust you with his divine plan?
After the birth of Jesus Christ may boys of around the age of Jesus were killed/ murdered by King Herod.
Matthew 2:13” Stay there until I tell you for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.
Biologically and humanly speaking the seed is with the man. There was no man’s doing but the work of the Holy Spirit.
John 1: 12-13
“Yet to those who believed in his name the right to become children of God verse 13 Children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

2.You are born of this incorruptible seed of God 1Peter1:23

We have been born again of the seed that cannot be corruptible in us- Christ is that seed.

3.Whatever is born of God overcomes the world.
