Part 3 – Entering the inheritance God has for you. – How to build your confidence in God?
Joshua 3:1 “Early the next morning Joshua and all the Israelites left Acacia Grove and arrived at the banks of the Jordan River, where they camped before crossing.”
We focused on the following 4 steps to enter the inheritance God has for us.
- The Acacia Grove Mindset – Renew Your Mind
In Hebrews the word Acacia means durable and was sometimes translated “incorruptible wood” referring to God’s holiness.
Moving towards the river, we must visit Acacia Grove to cleanse ourselves, the renewal of our minds and seek God like never before.
- Move the edge of the Jordan River – Focus on God
Israel is standing on the edge of the Jordan river to cross as they are moving into a new future. In our own power we are not able to cross the river, only through the power of God we will be able to cross the river. We must focus on God to take us through the Jordan.
- Lodging at the river. Spend time with God
Before we can enter the promise of God, we need to lodge before crossing the river. We need to spend time with God.
To enter the inheritance God has for you, you must renew your mind, focus on God, and Spend some time with God.
4. Look at your problem and know that God is greater than it.
The Bible declares in 2 Corinthians 2:11 “so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.”
In observing your situation it is always important to remind yourself that God is greater than your situation. The Satan’s strategy is to make your problem bigger than God – what a lie.
The 10 Spies proclaimed self-depreciation over their lives – They saw themselves as tiny, little grasshoppers who would be crushed by big giants.
Num. 13:33 Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!”
Confidence in God – Caleb and Joshua – They had confidence that God was with them, and were determined to do His will.
Num. 14:9 They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!
So, what is Confidence in God? It is to put your faith in God.
Faith in God then, is having the kind of trust and confidence that you understand that there is no other help, than God. You only hope is in God. When it looks like there is no other one than can help, God is your only hope.
Psalm 71:5 For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
Psalm 146:5 Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God,
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) “Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see.”
Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Faith causes you to know in your heart that God is greater than your problem. Remember, God is greater than any problem you may have.
Hope is a condition for faith. Hope is “an expectation of good”. It doesn’t matter what you see, God is greater than your problem.
Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
Romans 14:23 “Whatever is not of faith is sin. Only when we have confidence in God and His Word can we please Him.
Here are some keys to developing confidence in God.
- Listen to the Word of God as much as possible.
Romans 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God”
Proverbs 3: 6 Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. 7 Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! 8 Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life
- Give thanks. Give thanks for the results before you see. Don’t complain – that shows you doubt God’s love and God’s answer to your situation. Give thanks in all situations.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Colossians 3:15: And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
- Develop a life of praise and worship. Praise drives the powers of darkness away and brings the throne of God into your circumstances. Praising God is an act of faith and helps your faith to grow.
Psalm 37: 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 34:1 I will praise the Lord no matter what happens. I will constantly speak of his glories and grace. 2 I will boast of all his kindness to me. Let all who are discouraged take heart. 3 Let us praise the Lord together and exalt his name.
- Speak the WORD. By saying with your mouth you exercise your faith, you hear the Word and you build it into your life. God’s Word is anointed and has power when it is spoken to change the spiritual atmosphere. Confession of God’s Word (saying the same thing as God’s word) brings you into the place where the Lord will move to fulfil it.
1 John 5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us — whatever we ask — we know that we have what we asked of him.
Romans 10:8-10 …“The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: [9] That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Proverbs 18:21 The tongue has the power of life and death
