Part 3 Revival – Prayer and Fasting

Answer the following questions:

  • Does God have all the power?
  • For God to release his power do we need to pray?
  • Do we bother God enough to finally get Him to release his power in our life’s?
  • Does God require a certain amount of prayer before he answers prayer?

1. God has deposited his power in us

Eph 3:20  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Eph 3:20  that is able

above all

Abundantly above all

Exceeding abundantly above all

that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

God’s unlimited power is limited to our prayers. God has all the power, but his power is limited to our prayer life. We release God’s power through our prayers. Keep on praying until God’s power is released.

2. You need to do 3 things for a breakthrough

Matthew 6 focuses on the three things that will lead to a breakthrough.

  • Giving
  • Praying and
  • Fasting.

Prayer

Matt 6:9  This, then, is how you should pray

Fasting

Matt 6:17  But when you go without food, put oil on your head and make your face clean;  Mat 6:18  So that no one may see that you are going without food, but your Father in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward.

Giving

Matthew 6:19-21 (NLT) 19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

When you pray, you release the thirty-fold return. Praying and giving releases sixty-fold blessing. But when you pray, give and fast, you will see a hundred-fold return!

3. Keep on praying

1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us, “Keep on praying.”

Philippians 4:6-7.Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus”

Psalm 88:13 “O LORD, I cry out to you. I will keep on pleading day by day”.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct your paths”

4. Fasting

What is the purpose of fasting?

Fasting is essentially giving up food (or something else) for a period of time in order to focus your thoughts on God. While fasting, many people read the Bible, pray, or worship.

Fasting is feasting on fellowship with God.

The impact of fasting.

a. To strengthen prayer.

Ezra 8:23 (NLT) “So we fasted and earnestly prayed that our God would take care of us, and he heard our prayer.”

b. To seek God’s guidance.

Judges 20:26-27 (NLT) “Then all the Israelites went up to Bethel and wept in the presence of the Lord and fasted until evening. They also brought burnt offerings and peace offerings to the Lord. 27 The Israelites went up seeking direction from the Lord.”

c. To seek deliverance or protection.

2 Chronicles 20:3-5 (NLT) “Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the Lord for guidance. He also ordered everyone in Judah to begin fasting. 4 So people from all the towns of Judah came to Jerusalem to seek the Lord’s help.”

d. To express repentance and a return to God

1 Samuel 7:6 (NLT) “So they gathered at Mizpah and, in a great ceremony, drew water from a well and poured it out before the Lord. They also went without food all day and confessed that they had sinned against the Lord.”

e. To express love and worship for God.

Luke 2:37-38 (NLT) “Then she lived as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the Temple but stayed there day and night, worshiping God with fasting and prayer. 38 She came along just as Simeon was talking with Mary and Joseph, and she began praising God. She talked about the child to everyone who had been waiting expectantly for God to rescue Jerusalem.”

5. Why Fast?

Fasting gives you more time for prayer. During a fast we commit ourselves to make more time for God.  It demonstrates to God that we are serious about seeking Him.

Fasting demonstrates the depth of your desire when praying for something. It shows you that you are serious enough about your prayer request to pay a personal price. God honours deep desire and praying in faith.

We are fasting for Revival.

Make a list prayer list.  Daily pray for the issues on this list.

Fasting releases God’s supernatural power. It is a tool we can use when there is opposition to God’s will.
