The HOVERING of the Holy Spirit

Genesis 1:2-4 (NLT) “The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

The Spirit of God was hovering over:

  • Hovering in the darkness (light not yet recreated)
  • Hovering in midst of chaos
  • Hovering to incubate new life/new creation (a new thing [life not yet created)
  • Spirit is God’s incubating agent, facilitating potential of creation

The Spirit of God was hovering.

The word hovering is translated in the original Hebrew text into “rachaf” which means a bird sitting on eggs to incubate them until they hatch. The Spirit of God is hovering over your chaos, waiting to hatch.

Deuteronomy 32:11-12 (NKJV) 11 As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings,12 So the Lord alone led him

The Holy Spirit was sitting on the earth from the beginning exactly like the chicken which sits on her eggs incubating them till they hatch.

It is known that when the chicken hover over her eggs, she pulls out the feathers of her chest to allow her warm skin to be in direct contact with the eggs to warm them, and to keep the pulled feather as an insulator for the nest.

Acts 5:15 says, “They brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them.” So many people were getting healed that the meetings had to be taken outside.

Then the power of God began to flow in such a way that they tried to get in Peter’s shadow.

The Greek text there does not say Peter’s shadow healed anybody.

It says, “when they got in the over-shadowing.” Peter’s shadow wasn’t healing anybody.

The Holy Spirit was hovering out over the word that was coming from the one who was ministering – in this case it was Peter.

The Bible describes how God brought forth the nation Israel, describing the barrenness of Abraham and Sarah.  The Holy Spirit hovered around them.  Their bodies were literally transformed, and their youth was renewed.

Abraham had more kids after that – an old man and an old woman became young.

Why” Because Holy Spirit came and enveloped them and released his glory and his power.

God’s releases his power in darkness

Psalm 18:11 (NKJV) 11 He made darkness His secret place;

Isaiah 9:2 “The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them.

Matthew 10:27 “What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the house.

2 Samuel 22:29-31(NLT) “O Lord, you are my lamp. The Lord lights up my darkness. 30 In your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall. 31 “God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.

Isaiah 60 (AMPCE) “Arise [from the depression in which circumstances have kept you—rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!”

Arise and shine is

To confirm – 1Ki_1:36  “It shall be done, and may the LORD your God confirm it!

To decree – Mat_10:32  “Those who declare publicly that they belong to me, I will do the same for them before my Father in heaven.

To get up,  – 1Ki_19:7  The LORD’s angel returned and woke him up a second time, saying, “Get up and eat, or the trip will be too much for you.”

To strengthen – 2Th_2:17  encourage you and strengthen you to always do and say what is good.

Activate the Hovering Spirit

Isaiah 55:11 (AMP)  “So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.

Psalm 107:19-20 (AMP) Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,

And He saved them from their distresses.  He sent His word and healed them, And rescued them from their destruction

Proverbs 18:21 (MSG) 21 Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.

Proverbs 10:11 (ESV) 11  The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

The Spirit was waiting, hovering, and ready to receive the incoming Word of God (“Let there be …”). When God spoke, the Spirit parted the waters, carving air and dry land from chaos.

Acts 17:28 (NLT) “For in him we live and move and exist.”
