John 6: 66-69

John 6: 25-29

Genesis 22:6-13

  • The great multitude are following Jesus to be healed and to be fed (miracle of five loaves and 2 small fish)
  • They wanted to make him a king to set him against the Romans Empire authority (John 6:15)
  • They wanted a king who could multiply bread,
  • Here his proper work was is in danger of being lost focus because of their interest.
  • He found it necessary to reduce the crowd who followed him.
  • He did not beg them to follow him but it was their voluntary action (John 6: 67)
  • He does this by addressing them in terms which could only be acceptable only by a truly Spiritual-men –the true follower of Christ.
  • He assured them that He was not a political figure and many stopped walking with him from thereafter.
  • And Jesus the Christ is left His original 12 disciples (His demand- John 6:53-66)
  • Months of teaching seemed to have done nothing to 72 disciples.
  • It might seem doubtful even the 12 would be faithful,” Will you also go away”v66-67.
  1. We need someone to go to.V68A
  2. A man must have someone to go to.
  3. The human soul wants, demands, cries out for ,not for something only but someone to go to.
  4. People are not in short of the place to go but lack whom to go to.
  5. The soul cannot live without a master and without a guide and comforter.
  6. Apostle grasped the situation at once he saw that they must go to someone.
  7. Amiel said “ Man think they can do without religion ,they do not know that religion is indestructible , and questions simply is which one will you have.
  8. To whom shall you go, is the real question.
  9. It is not a question of choice between Christ and something else one else.
  10.  The disciple did not ask: what shall we take with if we leave. But they said to whom shall we go.
  11. Where there is worship the demand of the sacrifice is quite very realistic.
  12. Where is the lamb (Genesis 22: 6-8,13.)
  13. Jesus the Christ is the ultimate lamb of God (John1:29,36)
  14. What Peter the Apostle wanted was someone who rises above circumstances of life experiences.
  15. What human being want is some personal help to lift us above sin and human limitation.
  16. Man’s silent, bitter cry, fear and longing for some release in life ,peace and goodness.
  17. Ethic belonging cannot cure this longing for the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. TO WHOM SHALL WE GO- V68B

  • Man need something positive, some great Spiritual affirmation, a word of promise.
  • Man has many places to go but no person to go to except Christ.
  • We cannot forget the home from which we came, we come from God and we find our true self in Christ (Acts 17:28)
  • Many people try to drown this need and question of whom shall we go by collecting more material.
  • Multitudes are trying to drown their disgust in deeper cups of pleasure and riot.
  • People call the doctrine of Jesus “hard” but how harder is the doctrine of the world or devil.
  • Shall we turn to self and shall we make ourselves our own standard.
  • Let Jesus be the Centre point of your Worship or Christian life.
  • People move from congregation to congregation because they lack bread or they were never given the true bread (Jesus the Christ)
  • People are interested in the in the perishable bread – material things.
  • God knows you need this perishable bread but he wants you to have the bread from heaven. (Jesus). Matthews 6:31-33.
  • Words Of Eternal Life (Jesus is)- V.63
  • Spoken and written word of Christ is Spirit and is life.
  • The Spirit of God in Christ’s words quickens a dead sinner to become alive.
  • When you come to Christ been dead and when you receive his word you live.
  • Words of Christ quicken & nourish the soul.
  • Profits nothing –net the real value to man’s highest needs or wants
  • V63. They are life – are fitted to produce or give life to the soul dead in sin.
  • To whom shall we go-to Christ who has the eternal life (John 14:6).
  • Christ alone is the satisfier of the longings of the human soul.

Conclusion

  • What shall profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul. Matthew 16:26.
  • Our faith has been severely tried by the departure of other disciples but we cannot go to:
  • Lifeless formation (Judaism)
  • Wretched traditions of the Elders
  • Many gods & lords of the Heathen world around us.
  • There is no man who ever spoke like this man- John 7: 46.
