The Power of Prayer
Mat 6:13b For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. – The Power of Prayer
1. For thine is the Kingdom
What exactly is a kingdom? Very simply, a kingdom is the government of a king. More specifically, a kingdom is the sovereign rulership and governing influence of a king over his territory, impacting it with his will, his intent, and his purpose, manifesting a culture and society reflecting the king’s nature, values, and morals.
A kingdom is the governing impact of a king’s will over a territory or
domain, his influence over a people, and a government led by a king.
John 18:33b,36-38a “Are you the king of the Jews?”…Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jews. But now My kingdom is from another place.” “You are a king then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to Me.” “What is truth?” Pilate asked
What is in the will and testament of the King?
Will and testament are two different but related words that are both important. A will is what is in the mind of a person—his or her desire and intent. A testament is the physical documentation of a person’s will, codifying his or her desire and intent in the form of a legal document.
The Bible is the will and testament of the Kingdom of heaven. It is even divided into two sections called the Old Testament and the New Testament.
What is the will of God?
Matthew 6:31-33 Do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well
Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened
Luke 12:32 .Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom
2. The Power of the King
1. A king is never voted into power. His power is inherited from birth.
Isa 9:6 A child will be born for us. A son will be given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. He will be named: Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isa 9:7 His government and peace will have unlimited growth. He will establish David’s throne and kingdom. He will uphold it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The LORD of Armies is determined to do this!
2. A king is king by birth right. Jesus Christ was born a King. We do not make Him King; all we can do is acknowledge that He is King.
3. A king cannot be voted out of power. Because the kingdom is his by birth, a king rules for life.
He was King before this world began, and He will still be King after it has passed away.
Revelation 11:15b The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He will reign for ever and ever
4. A king’s authority is absolute. When a king speaks, he speaks with absolute authority that is inherent to his kingship.
A king’s word is law. Because a king’s authority is absolute, his word is law.
Psalm 19:7-9,11 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous…. By them is Your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward
5. A king personally owns everything in his domain.
Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.
Psalm 50:10 Every animal of the forest is Mine, and the cattle on at thousand hills
6. A king’s decree is unchanging.
Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away (Matthew 24:35).
Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away (Matthew 24:35).
7. A king chooses who will be a citizen.
John 15:16-19 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in My name. This is My command: Love each other. If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you
8. A king embodies the government of his kingdom.
This means that wherever a king is, his entire government is present. Whenever a king speaks, his whole government is speaking. Whenever a king moves, the government moves with him because he embodies the government; the king is the government.
Matthew 18:19-20 if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in My name, there am I with them
9. A king’s presence is the presence of his authority
Matthew 18:18 I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven
John 14:13-14 I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it
10. A king’s name is the essence of his authority
Phil 2. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name above all names, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,…
3. As the King’s Children we have authority
Matthew 18:18 I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Jesus is using Kingdom language. To “bind” means to lock up or prohibit; to “loose” means to unlock or permit.
On earth we have dominion authority. Jesus is saying that what we prohibit on earth, heaven will prohibit, and what we permit on earth, Heaven will permit.
That is why God needs us to pray.
He cannot interfere on earth unless we release Him to do so because He has given us sovereignty here. When we do, Heaven invades our territory on our behalf.
4. The Glory of God
The glory of God isn’t just a feeling, an event or an Old Testament experience—it’s a spiritual tsunami of everything contained in the character of God.
The word glory is literally translated “heavy weight,” meaning the heaviest, biggest, grandest thing about someone.
It has been called the manifested presence of God, but more than just a presence, it’s power. The kind of power that resurrects, delivers, overcomes and transforms. It is greater and stronger than any other power in existence. And it belongs to us.
Psalm 19:1 states, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.
How to get the glory of God?
Pray for the Glory
“For I consider the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” –Romans 8:18, NKJV
Walk in the Glory
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” –2 Corinthians 3:18, NKJV
The glory of God looks for a dwelling place. The original house for the glory of God was the tabernacle. But under the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit builds a temple in every believer.
1 Corinthians 3:16 “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (NKJV).
We are God’s house—His temple
5. Amen
Amen is derived from the Hebrew āmēn, which means “certainty,” “truth,” and “verily.”
“Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen”. – Psalm 89:52
When we end a prayer with the word amen, we are acknowledging that we believe God actively hears our prayers, and that our prayers will be answered by Him.
Amen is an expression that all those things we just asked for in prayer, all the things we praised God for, all the questions, all the pain and the joy we express in prayer are founded in the truth of God.
Conclusion
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen
